POP-UP PADEL CANARY WHARF 2017; A turning point in the history of padel

The Canary Wharf Pop-Up-Padel was without doubt the most significant event for the sport’s history in the UK. For almost three weeks, the sky-scrapper district Canary Wharf saw a pop-up Adidas Padel court installed in Montgomery Square, with the aim to attract new players and offer world-class exposure for the sport.

The event - organised by WeArePADEL in collaboration with the sport’s acting governing body British Padel - delivered free taster sessions Monday to Friday during lunchtime for city workers, and offered court rentals every day between 10am–12am and 1pm–9pm.

Londoners experienced for the first time a World Padel Tour Exhibition by the world’s top players Sanyo Gutierrez, Maxi Sanchez, Mati Diaz and Agustin Gomez Silingo, who put on a breath-taking spectacle June 29th and 30th. Former No.4 Swedish tennis player Jonas Bjorkman also joined the show by giving a surprise appearance and playing in one of the exhibitions with the professional padel players.

Furthermore, the organisation proudly supported the charity Action For Kids and donated a percentage of revenue from court rentals and the corporate league.

This event would have not been possible without the help and commitment of our sponsors Canary Wharf Group, Adidas, Estrella Damm and Aspall. We would like to express a sincere gratitude for their efforts. Thank you also to World Padel Tour, Head, Padelshack, Little José restaurant and Novotel Canary Wharf.
